Arrival: Plan to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled lesson time. There is no need to ring the doorbell. When you enter, please remove your shoes inside the SIDE door. You may unpack your instrument on the kitchen table and wait quietly in the kitchen area. Students who are late cannot be guaranteed a full lesson. Families are welcome and encouraged to relax in the kitchen area or observe quietly during the student’s lesson. Parents of Suzuki students are required to observe every lesson.
Tuition: Traditional lessons are $25 for ½ hour, $35 for 45 minutes and $50 for an hour. Suzuki instruction is $30 for 1/2 hour or $45 for 45 minutes and includes monthly parent education class and bi-monthly Saturday group classes. Tuition is payable monthly and due at the first lesson of each month. Keep in mind that certain months may have different numbers of weeks! Tuition not paid within the current month will be assessed a $10 late fee. There is a $20 fee for any returned checks. Financial need-based assistance is available.
Family Discounts: Additional family members receive a $10 per month discount off the above rates. May not be combined with any other discount or financial assistance.
Cancellations and Make-ups: Please give at least 24 hours if you must cancel a lesson. Make-up lessons are given at the teacher’s discretion depending on available times. Last minute cancellations and make-ups will not be made up. Lessons cancelled by the teacher for any reason will be rescheduled or credit will be given towards the next month’s tuition. In the case of inclement weather and school snow days lessons will still be held, however if you feel it is too dangerous to drive please call ASAP to reschedule.
Holidays: There will be no lessons offered during the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Lessons scheduled during school breaks and other holidays will be addressed on an individual basis.
Allergies: Please inform of any pet allergies. I have a short-haired cat and a husky. Special arrangements will be made for students with severe allergies. Travel outside of 10 miles will be assessed an additional $5 travel fee per lesson.
Illness: Please do not bring children to lessons if they are running a fever or are ill.
Required Materials: Please bring your violin, shoulder rest/pad, all assigned music and practice notebook/folder to each lesson. I have a few instruments available for rent at a monthly rate of $15 including insurance. Instruments may also be rented and other materials purchased locally at Stamell Stringed Instruments (
Parental Involvement: Parents of students under the age of seven are expected to sit in on all lessons in order to better assist in weekly practicing, however it is highly recommended that parents of all ages observe lessons. Parents of students studying the Suzuki method are expected to observe and/or participate at all lessons, monthly parent education classes and monthly group classes. Please bring a notebook in which to take notes on the lessons.
Summer Study: Study over the summer is vital to continue making progress. Study during the summer term is flexible, taking into account the travel and activities during these summer vacation months. Students who continue study over the summer will be given priority in scheduling lessons during the fall.
Recitals: Recitals will occur regularly, at least one per year. All students are strongly encouraged to perform. A fee of no more than $30 will be collected to pay for the accompanist and recital space. The recitals are always free and open to the public.
